“Veterinarians have issued a warning about a serious bacteria outbreak that could kill your dog.
“The bacteria is called “Lepto-spirosis” or “Lepto” for short. It infects dogs by burrowing into their skin. Then, it spreads throughout the dog’s body.
“The bacteria can also be transmitted to humans.
“Leptospirosis is spread through rats and if left unfound, can be deadly for dogs.”
This early report should be taken very seriously. In the early 1330s a different bacterial infection that was also spread by rats caused the outbreak of the deadly bubonic plague that started in China. Because China was one of the world’s busiest trading nations the plague soon spread to Europe.
While the bubonic plague mainly affects rodents, fleas can transmit the disease to people. Once people are infected, they infect others very rapidly.
After five years 25 million people were dead–one-third of Europe’s population at that time.
The disease struck and killed people with terrible speed. The Italian writer Boccaccio said its victims often: “ate lunch with their friends and dinner with their ancestors in paradise.”
No matter how this turns out we need to ask ourselves how far we’ll tolerate Rahm Emanuel transforming the once great city of Chicago into a third world hellhole.
